Tools and Flexibility
Since around 2005, I’ve used WordPress as a blogging platform. It has served me well on client projects. Useful as a blogging platform and as it evolved turned into a decent content management system. I want my blog to be a place where the muse can flow and hopefully inspire or guide my future self.
I wanted more simplicity out of a blog.
Bringing blogging in line with my note taking, I decided that I wanted to have something that met these ideals:
- Ownership - it’s 100% my data
- Exportability - I can get my data out
- Flexibility - plain text file based, everything works with this format
- Frictionless - I can easily blog
Workflow
Byword → Dropbox → Blot → Live
It really is that simple. Every post is saved as a .txt file and has Markdown formatting. I use Byword to edit those files, they are stored in Dropbox as plain text, and upon sync Blot will publish it to the web.
I love it.
